State-of-the-art research infrastructure
In Flanders we are convinced that excellent research is only ever possible through excellent, state-of-the-art research infrastructure.
This is why, Flanders since more than a decade, invests severely in research infrastructure supporting its three complementary research programmes: medium-scale, large-scale and international research infrastructures.
The research infrastructures funded through these programs are embedded in all research domains and provide the means for excellent scientific and major socio-economic output. They are hubs of highly innovative research.
The department Economy, Science and Innovation and the Research Foundation Flanders have joined forces to prepare this overview of large-scale and international research infrastructures in which they have invested over the last 10 years. A collection of which we can justifiably be proud of.
Powerful lever for top scientific research
Contributions to the current COVID-19 crisis and "the grand-challenges for the future" such as global warming, the ageing population, the energy issue, etc. are also made through these large and often internationally embedded research infrastructures.
