Vorige week publiceerde de Europese Commissie een mededeling over het verbeteren van het concurrentievermogen in de EU-regio’s. Met de mededeling bouwt de Commissie voort op haar werk rond slimme specialistie (i.e. specialisatie door regio’s in domeinen waarin zij een competitief voordeel hebben).
De Commissie wil innovatie en het concurrentievermogen in regio’s versterken en interregionale samenwerking stimuleren (zoals het Vanguard Initiatief).
Voorts wil ze meer nadruk leggen op regio’s in industriële transitie en de samenhang verbeteren tussen EU-beleid en programma’s ter ondersteuning van innovatie.
